Job summary

Prairie Engineers, P.C. seeks an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead building systems design. The role involves overseeing HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection from concept through construction documents, mentoring junior staff, and building client relationships.

The position offers remote, hybrid, and office work environments across the United States with a competitive salary and benefits package. A valid PE license in Illinois or ability to obtain it within six months is preferred.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• Experience: 8+ years of mechanical design experience in building systems/MEP.
• Licensure: Illinois Professional Engineer license or ability to obtain; multi-state licensure a plus.
• Software: AutoCAD, Revit, load/energy software proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Lead HVAC, plumbing and fire protection design for facilities from concept to construction documents.
• Perform load calculations, equipment selection and system analyses; prepare specs and cost estimates.
• Seal drawings and serve as engineer of record; QA/QC on mechanical deliverables.
• Provide construction administration: RFIs, submittals, site visits, punch lists.
• Mentor and direct mechanical designers and junior engineers.
• Build client relationships and help develop proposals, scopes and fees.
