Job summary

Prairie Engineers, P.C. is seeking an experienced, licensed Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection design for federal and institutional facilities from concept to construction documents.

You will supervise mechanical designers, seal drawings, and oversee QA/QC. The role requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, 8+ years of building systems design, and an Illinois Professional Engineer license (or ability to obtain within six months).

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
• 8+ years of mechanical design experience in building systems/MEP consulting.
• Illinois Professional Engineer license or ability to obtain within six months; licensure in multiple states a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for federal and institutional facilities from concept through construction documents.
• Perform load calculations, equipment selection and system analysis; prepare specifications and cost estimates.
• Seal drawings and serve as engineer of record; perform QA/QC on mechanical deliverables.
• Provide construction administration: RFIs, submittal reviews, site visits, and punch lists.
• Mentor and direct mechanical designers and junior engineers.
• Build client relationships and help develop proposals, scopes, and fees.
