Job summary

Prairie Engineers, P.C. is seeking an experienced, licensed Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team.

The role focuses on leading the design of HVAC, chilled water and plumbing systems, and fire protection for federal facilities from concept to construction documents. You will perform load calculations, equipment selection, and QA/QC on deliverables, while mentoring junior staff and building client relationships.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of mechanical design experience in building systems/MEP consulting.
• Current Illinois Professional Engineer license, or ability to obtain Illinois licensure within six months; multi-state licensure preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of HVAC, chilled/hot water, plumbing and fire protection systems for military, federal, and institutional facilities from concept through construction documents.
• Perform load calculations, equipment selection and system analysis; prepare specifications and cost estimates.
• Seal drawings and serve as engineer of record; perform QA/QC on mechanical deliverables.
• Provide construction administration: RFIs, submittal reviews, site visits, and punch lists.
• Mentor and direct mechanical designers and junior engineers.
• Build client relationships and help develop proposals, scopes, and fees.
