Job summary

Prairie Engineers, P.C. is seeking an experienced, licensed Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team. This role focuses on HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection design for federal and institutional facilities from concept to construction documents.

You will seal drawings and act as engineer of record while mentoring junior engineers. Required: Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering, 8+ years in building systems/MEP consulting, and IL PE or ability to obtain within six months.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 8+ years of mechanical design experience in building systems/MEP consulting.
• Current Illinois Professional Engineer license, or ability to obtain Illinois licensure within six months. Licensure in multiple states is a plus.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, and load/energy software.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of HVAC, chilled/hot water, plumbing and fire protection systems for military, federal, and institutional facilities from concept through construction documents.
• Perform load calculations, equipment selection and system analysis; prepare specifications and cost estimates.
• Seal drawings and serve as engineer of record; perform QA/QC on mechanical deliverables.
• Provide construction administration: RFIs, submittal reviews, site visits, and punch lists.
• Mentor and direct mechanical designers and junior engineers.
• Build client relationships and help develop proposals, scopes, and fees.
