Job summary

Prairie Engineers, P.C. is seeking a licensed Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead design of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection for federal and institutional facilities.

You will mentor junior staff, perform load calculations, seal drawings, and manage QA/QC from concept to construction documents. A current Illinois PE license or ability to obtain within six months is required; 8+ years of ME design experience and proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required.
• 8+ years of mechanical design experience in building systems/MEP consulting required.
• Current Illinois Professional Engineer license or ability to obtain within 6 months; multi-state licensure a plus.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, and load/energy software required.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of HVAC, chilled/hot water, plumbing and fire protection systems for federal facilities from concept through construction documents.
• Perform load calculations, equipment selection and system analysis; prepare specifications and cost estimates.
• Seal drawings and serve as engineer of record; perform QA/QC on mechanical deliverables.
• Provide construction administration: RFIs, submittal reviews, site visits, and punch lists.
• Mentor and direct mechanical designers and junior engineers.
• Build client relationships and help develop proposals, scopes, and fees.
