Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to lead tooling design and assembly strategies for the SPARC project. You will own the development of tooling, lifting frames, and manipulation methods, coordinating with multiple teams to ensure safe, efficient assembly.

Applicants should have a BS in engineering, 7+ years of mechanical engineering experience with project ownership, and CAD proficiency.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Civil, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering required.
• 7+ years of Mechanical Engineering experience with project ownership.
• 4+ years overseeing an in-progress construction, manufacturing, or assembly/integration process.
• 4+ years of experience with CAD software.

Responsibilities

• Own, design, and develop tooling, lifting, manipulation, and support frames for SPARC components.
• Coordinate with system teams to optimize assembly steps and practices.
• Analyze tool structures and kinematics for safe operation.
• Create work instructions for tool usage during assembly on site.
• Oversee tool fabrication with external vendors and ensure specs are met.
