Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to own the mechanical design of customer terminals and their enclosures, antenna housings, radomes, and mounting provisions. You will work across RF, thermal, and electrical teams to deliver a high-volume, cost-optimized product.

This is a founding hire on a young team; you will help define mechanical practices, standards, and supplier relationships for the terminal program, from concept through production.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 7+ years of mechanical design experience for production hardware.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD tools for detailed modeling.
• Experience performing structural and thermal analysis using analytical or finite element methods.
• Designing enclosures or housings for outdoor, weather-exposed environments.
• Working knowledge of GD&T and ASME Y14.5.
• Strong experience with high-volume manufacturing processes and materials.
• Experience taking a product from concept through qualification into volume production.
• Experience with PLM and configuration management systems.
• Strong written and verbal communication across disciplines.

Responsibilities

• Own mechanical design of customer terminal enclosures, antenna housings, radomes, internal structure, and mounting provisions from concept through production release.
• Design for environmental survival including ingress protection, sealing, corrosion resistance, UV stability, and lightning grounding.
• Design mounting systems for varied site conditions (roof, pole, wall) with clear anchor/load paths for installers.
• Lead structural analysis for wind, ice, snow, and shipping loads with safety margins.
• Collaborate with thermal engineering on enclosure-level thermal design and heat management.
• Work with RF/antenna engineers to ensure mechanical choices preserve antenna performance.
• Drive design for manufacturability, assembly, and test with contract manufacturers and tooling suppliers.
• Lead cost reduction across generations through part consolidation and process changes.
• Develop packaging, shipping protection, and installation ergonomics for the out-of-box experience.
• Support qualification campaigns and correlate analysis with test results.
• Maintain CAD models, drawings, and BOMs in the PLM system.
• Contribute to serviceability, tamper resistance, and physical security considerations.
