Job summary

Blue Origin is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to own the mechanical design and packaging of RF payload assemblies for phased array antennas. You will lead thermal management strategies and coordinate with RF, ASIC, electrical, and structural teams to ensure producible, robust hardware for space missions.

The role emphasizes mechanical authority over a defined scope, with responsibilities spanning design, analysis, testing, and supplier collaboration.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 8+ years of mechanical design and packaging experience.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD tools for detailed part and large-assembly modeling.
  • Experience performing structural and thermal analysis using analytical methods or finite element tools.
  • Thermal management of high-power-density electronics, including conduction paths and heat sinking.
  • Experience applying GD&T and ASME Y14.5 standards.
  • Experience with PLM and configuration management systems such as Windchill or Teamcenter.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional reviews.

Responsibilities

  • Own the mechanical design and packaging of phased array antenna panels and RF payload assemblies from architecture through design, release, and production support.
  • Drive thermal management strategy for high-power-density RF electronics in partnership with thermal analysis.
  • Design PCBA mounting and retention approaches meeting thermal preload, flatness, and structural requirements.
  • Lead architecture and trade studies for packaging approaches and defend recommendations in reviews.
  • Perform and interpret structural and thermal analysis and coordinate with specialized teams.
  • Own mechanical interfaces for RF payload units and drive maturity with subsystem engineers.
  • Support structural and thermal test campaigns, including instrumentation interfaces and data correlation.
  • Provide technical direction to suppliers on producibility and assembly processes.
  • Present technical content at program design reviews and baseline reviews.
  • Mentor engineers and help build mechanical capability across the team.
