Job summary

Blue Origin seeks an experienced mechanical engineer to lead the design, analysis, and testing of rugged avionics enclosures for lunar missions. You will integrate with Electrical, Systems, Manufacturing, Test, and Quality teams to ensure high-reliability packaging in harsh environments.

You will mentor junior engineers, perform structural and thermal analyses, and guide the design from concept through production, with opportunities for international collaboration and travel up to 15%.

Qualifications

• B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering.
• 10+ years of experience designing ruggedized electronic enclosures or high-reliability hardware.
• Experience with static structural, modal, random vibration, and thermal analysis.
• Proficient with 3D CAD (Creo preferred).
• Proficient with FEA tools (Ansys preferred).
• Experience with GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
• Ability to lead multiple projects and communicate designs effectively.
• Experience with environmental testing (vibration, shock, thermal).
• Experience performing failure analysis and root-cause actions.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership as a cross-disciplinary team member in a fast-paced design environment.
• Lead the design cycle of flight and mission-critical avionics enclosures.
• Collaborate with customers and stakeholders to define requirements and architecture.
• Coordinate with electrical engineering for PCB/interconnect thermal/structural analyses.
• Lead design trade studies and create detailed mechanical specs and drawings.
• Develop 3D CAD models, assembly drawings, installation drawings, and documentation.
• Build and evaluate prototype assemblies and test fixtures.
• Mentor junior engineers and review designs and documentation.
