Job summary

WSP is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer for our Charlotte, NC office to contribute to the Property and Buildings Team. You will plan, evaluate and adapt standard techniques to deliver small to mid-size projects, coordinating with PMs and senior engineers for technical guidance.

Responsibilities include delivering calculations, drawings, equipment layouts, and specifications, while meeting deadlines and budgets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline.
• 5–7 years of relevant post-education experience in engineering and prior mechanical design experience.
• Engineer in Training Certification.
• Knowledge of code compliance requirements and industry standards.
• Strong organizational, prioritization, decision making and analytical skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment.
• Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
• Experience with Horizon or Project Resource Management software is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare basic deliverables and products including calculations, drawings, and specifications.
• Set deadlines and assigns responsibilities.
• Examine field conditions to support development and completion of projects.
• Design mechanical systems with calculations of heating and cooling loads per QA/QC processes.
• Select and layout mechanical equipment (pumps, chillers, fans, boilers).
• Develop project specifications and attend meetings with architects and owners.
• Meet client goals and objectives; pursue new work including client presentations.
• Mentor junior team members and contribute to internal knowledge sharing.
• Support business development and participate in the firm’s Technical Committee as requested.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
