Job summary

Cannon Design seeks a Mechanical Assessor for remote U.S. work with preference for candidates near major hubs.

You will lead mechanical and plumbing assessments across healthcare, education, sports, public, and commercial sectors, identify deficiencies, and provide costed remediation plans while mentoring junior staff. Responsibilities include on-site assessments, client interfacing, and contributing to project planning and capital strategies.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in mechanical/plumbing facility assessments (healthcare/education preferred)
• Experience evaluating HVAC, plumbing, and building equipment
• Experience with building renovation and historical structures is a plus
• Construction site experience as Administrator or Field Mechanical Technician is beneficial
• Travel availability up to 40% for out-of-town assignments
• Must be able to walk, climb ladders, and work on roof surfaces

Responsibilities

• Conduct on-site facility condition assessments as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Evaluate HVAC, ductwork, piping, cooling towers, chillers, and boilers.
• Maintain walk rates between 100,000 and 225,000 building square feet per day.
• Provide written technical descriptions of observed systems and deficiencies.
• Determine overall condition and remaining useful life of each system.
• Provide recommendations to correct deficiencies with budget estimates.
• Interview operations staff to gather history and challenges.
• Prepare project progress documentation for PM review.
• Review peers’ work and participate in post-project reviews.
