Job summary

First National Bank of Omaha (FNBO) seeks a Senior Mainframe Engineer to lead z/OS modernization and operating system upgrades within a remote-capable, enterprise-grade environment. You will guide standards, mentor teams, and drive efficient, secure mainframe delivery across client environments.

You will design repeatable upgrade procedures, oversee IBM and ISV software installations, and contribute to strategic initiatives like Sysplex enhancements and automation.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of experience as a Mainframe Senior Systems Engineer.
• Expertise in z/OS components: JES2, HCD/IODF, SMP/E, WLM, OMVS/USS, SMF/RMF, ASM, GRS, SDSF, TSO and RACF.
• Strong ability to lead technical teams and drive standardized upgrade processes.
• Experience with system upgrades, mass maintenance, and software installation on mainframe environments.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a technical leader, guiding best practices and mentoring team members on z/OS operating system upgrade optimization.
• Design and implement standardized approaches for z/OS upgrades and mass maintenance to ensure repeatable, high-quality outcomes.
• Lead efforts to optimize system performance, streamline processes, and reduce operational complexity.
• Oversee installation, configuration, and maintenance of IBM and ISV software products, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to plan and execute operating system upgrades with minimal business impact.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation and templates for operating system rollouts.
• Drive adoption of new technologies and capabilities (e.g., Sysplex enhancements, automation frameworks) to support strategic objectives.
• Act as the SME for mainframe infrastructure projects, providing technical direction and governance.
• Provide advanced troubleshooting and resolution for escalated incidents beyond Level 1 support.
• Participate in after-hours and weekend support as required.
