Job summary

First National Bank of Omaha (FNBO) is seeking a Senior Mainframe Engineer to lead and modernize z/OS environments within our managed services team. You will drive standards, optimize processes, and ensure reliable delivery of mainframe services while guiding strategic modernization initiatives.

The ideal candidate brings deep mainframe expertise, a track record of leading complex upgrades, and the ability to influence across cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years of experience as a Mainframe Senior Systems Engineer.
• Proven expertise in z/OS upgrades, mass maintenance, and software installation.
• Strong knowledge of JES2, HCD/IODF, SMP/E, WLM, OMVS/USS, SMF/RMF, and RACF.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and mentor team members on z/OS upgrade optimization.
• Design standardized upgrade and maintenance approaches for repeatable outcomes.
• Lead performance optimization and process simplification initiatives.
• Oversee IBM and ISV software installation and configuration.
• Coordinate OS upgrades with minimal business impact.
• Develop technical docs and templates for OS rollouts.
• Advocate new technologies (Sysplex, automation) to meet strategic goals.
• Serve as SME for mainframe projects with governance role.
• Provide advanced troubleshooting for escalations beyond Level 1.
• Participate in after-hours and weekend support as needed.
