Job summary

First National Bank of Omaha (FNBO) is seeking a Senior Mainframe Engineer to lead modernization efforts for z/OS environments. You will drive standardized upgrade processes, mentor engineers, and ensure high-quality, scalable mainframe services across client environments.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement automation, optimize performance, and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, while contributing to after-hours support as needed.

Qualifications

• Must have proven experience in z/OS upgrades and mass maintenance deployments.
• Deep knowledge of key z/OS components (JES2, HCD/IODF, SMP/E, WLM, OMVS/USS, SMF/RMF, ASM, GRS, SDSF, TSO, RACF).
• Strong understanding of VTAM and TCP/IP; LPAR config via HMC.
• Storage management experience (SMS, HSM, DFDSS, VSAM, IDCAMS, ICF Catalogs).
• Minimum 10 years as a Mainframe Senior Systems Engineer.

Responsibilities

• Serve as technical leader, mentor team on z/OS upgrade optimization.
• Design standardized approaches for z/OS upgrades and mass maintenance.
• Lead efforts to optimize performance and reduce operational complexity.
• Oversee installation and maintenance of IBM and ISV software per enterprise standards.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on OS upgrades with minimal business impact.
• Develop technical docs and templates for OS rollouts.
• Drive adoption of new mainframe technologies (Sysplex enhancements, automation).
• Provide SME direction and governance for mainframe projects.
• Provide advanced troubleshooting for escalated incidents beyond Level 1.
• Participate in after-hours/weekend support as required.
