Job summary

Rivian Automotive is seeking a Diagnostics Engineer for the Service Operations team to lead development and be SME in Vehicle Low Voltage Systems on Electric Vehicles, including 12V batteries, DCDC converters, and wiring. You will coordinate diagnostics software development, evaluate electrical architecture, and design requirements for complex diagnostic systems using AI tools while monitoring telemetry.

Qualifications

• BSc or MSc in a relevant engineering discipline.
• 3+ years of experience with Low Voltage Systems in automotive or related industry.
• Experience with C++, Python, SQL, Linux at comprehension level; synthesis-level preferred.
• Experience with AI coding tools such as Claude, Devin, Cursor.
• Experience with CAN and Ethernet tools (Vector CANalyzer, Wireshark).
• Foundational engineering knowledge across mechanics, physics, electronics, control systems.
• Automotive diagnostics development experience preferred.
• Proven track record driving service/field requirements in a design-focused environment.
• Strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills.
• Experience working with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills across diverse backgrounds.
• Attention to detail with big-picture awareness.
• Occasional travel (10%).

Responsibilities

• Act as service engineering SME in BEV energy distribution (12V, DCDC/DCAC, wiring).
• Coordinate and prioritize diagnostics software development and telemetry evaluation.
• Design software requirements for new DTCs to close detection gaps.
• Use AI coding tools to build skills files and small diagnostic apps.
• Develop and improve diagnostic content, testing procedures, and automation.
• Collaborate with software, requirements, and quality teams for onboard diagnostics.
