Job summary

Rivian is seeking a Diagnostic Engineer in Irvine, CA to join the Service Operations’ Diagnostic Engineering team. You will develop and provide expert guidance on vehicle high voltage charging systems, interoperability, and industry standards, and lead software development for diagnostics and hardware- software integration.

You will design requirements for complex diagnostic systems, use AI tools to assist diagnostics, analyze vehicle telemetry, and collaborate across Software, Requirements

Qualifications

• BSc or MSc in Electrical, Electronic, or Mechanical engineering.
• 3+ years of experience with High Voltage Charging and EVSE in automotive industry.
• Experience with C++, Python, SQL, Linux, or similar technologies at a comprehension level.
• Experience with AI coding tools such as Claude, Devin, or Cursor.
• Experience with vehicle CAN and Ethernet tools such as Vector CANalyzer and Wireshark.
• Foundational engineering knowledge across mechanics, physics, metallurgy, electronics, or software.
• Automotive diagnostics development experience preferred.
• Proven track record with cross-functional teams in a tech environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail.
• Occasional travel (10%).

Responsibilities

• Translate software requirements into technician diagnostic information and procedures.
• Partner with software teams to deliver diagnostic tools and bug fixes.
• Set field strategy based on DTCs to improve diagnostics.
• Design software requirements for new DTCs.
• Use AI coding tools to build diagnostic support apps.
• Develop and improve diagnostic content, testing procedures, and evaluation logic.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine onboard diagnostics.
• Analyze logs and vehicle telemetry to close coverage gaps.
• Document technical procedures to maximize service efficiency.
• Monitor hardware performance and drive software improvements.
