Job summary

Affirm is reinventing credit to offer consumers flexible, transparent pay-later options with no hidden fees. The Ledger Engineering team builds a robust ledger platform that supports rapid product innovation and tight regulatory controls.

You will lead technical strategy for a high-scale backend, collaborating with product, design, and analytics to ensure reliability, availability and performance across critical financial systems.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience designing, developing and launching backend systems at scale using languages like Python or Kotlin.
• Extensive track record of developing highly available distributed systems using AWS, MySQL, Spark and Kubernetes.
• Experience in financial systems, ledgering, treasury or adjacent domains where data accuracy and system reliability are critical.
• Ability to deliver major features or components with clear technical and execution plans.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and reason from low-level details to system architecture.

Responsibilities

• Set technical strategy for the team on a year-long horizon and tie it to business-impacting projects.
• Collaborate across product management, design, and analytics to ensure sustainability and risk management.
• Define and advocate technical solutions and operational processes to empower the team.
• Own team operations and availability with monitoring, runbooks, testing and incident response.
• Establish code review and design standards and promote them across teams.
• Mentor and develop team members through feedback and example.
