Job summary

Swiss Re is seeking a sharp Life & Health underwriter for U.S. offices including Plano, TX. You will apply evidence-based risk selection across medical, financial, and product factors, delivering exceptional client service and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

You’ll work in a hybrid environment, travel up to 10% and engage in ongoing learning through internal seminars and thought leadership, while developing expertise in AI-enabled underwriting tools and regulatory considerations.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Life & Health Underwriting experience with proficiency in risk selection and case management.
• FLMI and/or FALU designation, or active progress toward earning one.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills for assessing medical, financial, and non-medical risk factors.
• Familiarity with AI-enabled underwriting tools and digital resources.
• Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills.
• Time management and organizational skills for balancing high-volume workload.

Responsibilities

• Apply disciplined, evidence-based risk selection across medical, non-medical, financial, product, market, and governance considerations, meeting service standards.
• Escalate complex or unusual matters appropriately and apply guidelines in a commercially sound way.
• Partner with clients and internal teams to provide underwriting expertise for projects via phone and email within service standards.
• Promote Life Guide and stay current on updates to help clients apply guidance effectively.
• Participate in client seminars, webinars, thought leadership discussions to strengthen client relationships.
• Engage in internal training programs to support a culture of continuous learning.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of core insurance products, legislation, taxation, risk selection principles, tools, and AI capabilities.
• Travel as needed (approx. 10%) for internal meetings and client engagements.
