Job summary

Swiss Re in the United States seeks a sharp Life & Health Underwriter to join the US underwriting team. You will apply evidence-based risk selection across medical, financial, and non-medical factors while partnering with clients and cross-functional teams to deliver strong results.

The role offers a hybrid work model with travel up to 10%, and requires 5+ years in Life & Health underwriting, FLMI or FALU, and familiarity with AI-enabled tools.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of Life & Health Underwriting experience in (re)insurance.
• FLMI and/or FALU designation, or active progress toward earning one.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills for assessing complex risk factors.
• Familiarity with AI-enabled underwriting tools, digital resources, and process innovation.
• Excellent communication and conflict resolution skills with clients and stakeholders.
• Time management and organizational skills for balancing high-volume workloads.

Responsibilities

• Apply evidence-based risk selection across medical, non-medical, financial, product, market, and governance considerations.
• Escalate complex or unusual matters and apply guidelines in a commercially sound way.
• Partner with clients and internal teams to provide underwriting expertise for projects and inquiries.
• Promote and stay current on underwriting manuals and guidance for clients.
• Participate in client seminars, webinars, and industry engagement to strengthen relationships.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of core insurance products, legislation, taxation, and underwriting tools.
• Travel as needed (up to ~10%) for internal meetings, conferences, and client meetings.
