Job summary

Travelers in Massachusetts seeks an Associate Senior Counsel to independently handle a caseload of moderate to higher complexity matters, including Major Case matters depending on line of business. You will mentor junior attorneys, provide strategic guidance, and deliver optimal outcomes for insured clients.

The role covers territory around Stockbridge, Ludlow, Longmeadow, Chicopee and surrounding areas. A JD from an accredited school and 4+ years of practice with an active license are required,

Qualifications

• 5+ years of insurance defense litigation experience as a practicing attorney.
• Demonstrates aptitude for trying cases to a jury with a track record of courtroom outcomes.
• Strong technical knowledge and ability to communicate complex information to diverse audiences.
• Proficient oral and written advocacy, with track record of summary judgment/appellate success.
• Knowledge of bench and local jurisdiction practices; ability to travel.
• Leadership through mentoring and influencing skills; negotiation skills.

Responsibilities

• Handle a caseload of moderate to higher exposure cases including Major Case litigation.
• Apply litigation skills to try cases to verdict or negotiate resolutions.
• Conduct advanced legal research and craft persuasive writing and presentations.
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery, and other legal documents.
• Attend court events, depositions, and appointments.
• Provide analyses and recommendations to insured clients and Claim partners.
• Collaborate with expert witnesses and consultants on case strategies.
• Mentor less experienced attorneys and staff; support office goals.

Education

Juris Doctorate or equivalent International legal degree
