Job summary

Travelers is seeking an Associate Senior Counsel to independently handle a caseload of moderate to higher complexity insurance defense matters, including Major Case matters. You will provide proactive litigation strategy, mentor junior staff, and deliver optimal outcomes for insured clients and claim partners.

You will leverage trial experience, perform rigorous legal research, draft pleadings, and collaborate with experts to develop case strategies.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of insurance defense litigation experience.
• Aptitude for trying cases to a jury with a track record of courtroom outcomes.
• Strong technical knowledge and ability to explain complex matters.
• Proficient oral and written advocacy with summary judgment or appellate success.
• Deep knowledge of bench, bar and local jurisdictional practices.
• Collaborative with colleagues, customers and business partners to deliver service.
• Leadership via mentoring and influencing colleagues.
• Sound decision making with advanced negotiation skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities with urgency and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Leverage pre-trial and trial experience to try cases to verdict or negotiate resolution.
• Conduct proficient to advanced legal research and write persuasively.
• Draft substantive pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery and other documents.
• Attend court events, depositions and appointments independently.
• Provide case analysis and recommendations to insured clients and claim partners.
• Collaborate with expert witnesses to develop case strategies.
• Build relationships with clients and business partners to deliver service.
• Provide internal/external training and legal updates to insured clients and claim partners.
• Mentor other attorneys and legal staff; support office goals.
