Job summary

Kin Insurance is seeking an Insurance Counsel - Forms to drive policy language for aggressive state and product expansion. You will lead drafting for a line (personal auto or property) and serve as a legal advisor on form interpretation and regulatory matters.

You will draft filing-ready forms, respond to regulator objections, and maintain standardized language across states. A JD and 5+ years of drafting experience are required, with remote-first work across the U.S.

Qualifications

• A JD degree is required.
• 5+ years of policy form drafting experience, or equivalent such as claims litigation or coverage counsel experience.
• Experience drafting personal lines policy forms for multiple states.
• Experience reading state insurance statutes and regulations and translating requirements into policy language.
• Experience drafting responses to regulator objections on form filings.
• Experience advising business stakeholders on coverage interpretation and policy wording.
• Track record of independently drafting complete forms packages from research to filing-ready.

Responsibilities

• Research state statutes and regulations and translate them into compliant policy wording.
• Draft responses to Department of Insurance objections on forms and advocate Kin's position with regulators.
• Provide legal advice on coverage interpretation and form wording to internal partners.
• Draft complete new state and product forms packages for your line of business, including base policies, endorsements, and notices.
• Perform first-pass legal review of forms and elevate novel state law questions to Senior Insurance Counsel.
• Build and maintain countrywide base forms and reusable state kits for your line.
• Establish drafting standards and reusable language for faster state package production.
• Design and deliver internal training on Kin's policy forms and regulatory expectations.
• Serve as backup drafter for the other line of business.
• Identify legal risks in proposed product designs before form drafting.
• Review AI-assisted drafts for legal accuracy and establish AI guardrails.
• Maintain and update forms packages in response to statutes, regulations, and product changes.
