Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is hiring a Senior Inpatient Medical Coder to deliver coding services for inpatient hospital encounters in a remote role. You will assign ICD-10-CM/PCS codes, determine DRG outcomes, and ensure documentation aligns with official guidelines and client standards.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or higher.
• Professional coder certification from AHIMA and/or AAPC (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P CPC, OR CPC-H).
• 3+ years of Acute Care inpatient medical coding experience.
• 2+ years in Level 2+ trauma center or teaching hospital with complex procedures.
• 2+ years of ICD-10 (CM & PCS) and DRG coding experience.
• Ability to pass pre-employment screenings including drug and background checks.

Responsibilities

• Identify appropriate ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for inpatient services and assess DRG impact.
• Abstract data elements during chart review for coding as needed.
• Adhere to official coding guidelines and client coding guidelines.
• Maintain coding quality and productivity standards set by Optum360.
• Provide documentation feedback to providers and query physicians when appropriate.
• Stay up-to-date with coding knowledge from QM Manager and Coding Directors.
• Participate in coding department meetings and educational events.
• Review and maintain records of charts coded, held, or missing.
