Job summary

UnitedHealth Group is seeking a Medical Coding Specialist to assign ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for inpatient hospital services, ensuring accuracy and compliance with DRG guidelines. This remote position supports a flexible schedule and contributes to high-quality clinical data.

You will maintain up-to-date coding knowledge, participate in departmental meetings, and collaborate with providers to resolve coding questions.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED
• AHIMA and/or AAPC credentialing (RHIT, RHIA, CCS, or CIC) maintained annually
• 3+ years Acute Care Inpatient medical coding experience
• 3+ years DRG coding experience with complex procedures
• 3+ years ICD-10-PCS coding experience

Responsibilities

• Identify ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for inpatient hospital services and their impact on DRG with CC/MCC reference
• Abstract data elements during chart review when coding as needed
• Adhere to coding ethics per AHIMA and/or AAPC standards
• Maintain performance in coding quality and productivity as per Optum360
• Provide documentation feedback to providers and query physicians when appropriate
• Maintain up-to-date coding knowledge from QM Manager and Directors
• Participate in coding department meetings and educational events
• Review and maintain records of coded/held/missing charts
