Optum is seeking a Senior Inpatient Medical Coder to deliver ICD-10-CM/PCS coding services for inpatient hospital encounters in a remote, nationwide setting. Training is provided and full-time telecommuting is available across the United States.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or higher.
• Professional coder certification with AHIMA/AAPC credentialing and annual maintenance.
• 3+ years of Acute Care inpatient medical coding experience.
• 2+ years in Level 2+ trauma centers or teaching hospitals with complex procedures.
• 2+ years of ICD-10-CM/PCS and DRG coding experience.
• Ability to pass pre-employment requirements including drug screening and background checks.

Responsibilities

• Identify appropriate ICD-10-CM/PCS codes for inpatient hospital services and DRG impact.
• Abstract data elements during chart review as needed.
• Adhere to AHIMA/AAPC coding ethics and guidelines.
• Maintain performance in coding quality and productivity per Optum360 standards.
• Provide documentation feedback to providers and query physicians when appropriate.
• Keep coding knowledge up-to-date via QM/Coding Operations leadership materials.
• Participate in coding department meetings and educational events.
• Review and maintain records of coded, held, or missing charts.
