Job summary

Advocate Health is seeking an experienced inpatient coder to join the Revenue Cycle team. The Coding Production Operations unit handles inpatient coding across multiple service lines with complex documentation.

The role requires AHIMA/AAPC certification, an associate degree in Health Information Management, and at least seven years of inpatient coding experience in acute care. Remote work within approved states may be possible.

Qualifications

• Advanced proficiency with ICD, CPT and HCPCS coding guidelines.
• Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficient computer skills including MS Office and email.
• Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Review complex inpatient documentation to assign diagnosis and procedure codes (ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, HCPCS).
• Ensure correct code selection per Official Coding Guidelines and regulatory requirements.
• Code high-dollar and long-stay cases across patient types.
• Query for documentation clarification when needed and act as coding SME to leadership.
