Qualifications

• 3+ years of Acute Care inpatient medical coding experience
• 2+ years in Level 2 or higher trauma center or teaching hospital with complex procedures
• 2+ years of ICD-10 (CM & PCS) and DRG coding experience
• Professional coder certification from AHIMA and/or AAPC (RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCS-P, CPC, or CPC-H)
• Ability to pass pre-employment requirements including drug screen and background check

Responsibilities

• Identify appropriate ICD-10-CM/PCS code assignments for inpatient services and DRG impact
• Abstract data elements during chart review as needed
• Adhere to AHIMA and/or AAPC coding standards and client guidelines
• Maintain coding quality and productivity as per Optum360 standards
• Provide documentation feedback to providers and query physicians when appropriate
• Keep up-to-date coding knowledge from QM Manager and Director of Coding/Quality Management materials
• Participate in coding department meetings and educational events
• Maintain records of charts coded, held, or missing
