Job summary

Whatnot seeks an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to own the path between customers and our code, spanning edge, DNS, private connectivity, service mesh, TLS, and internal access. You will partner with Reliability, Platform Engineering, and Security to instrument and improve observability, ensuring fast, reliable traffic worldwide.

You will write controllers and automation, scale private connectivity, and keep traffic secure as the topology grows.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in Computer Science or related field.
• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• 3+ years with Istio and Envoy, including custom extensions.
• Deep Kubernetes networking knowledge (CNI, pod/service networking, ingress).
• Experience operating a CDN at scale (e.g., Cloudflare).
• Experience running globally distributed apps across regions.
• Strong networking fundamentals: DNS, TLS, TCP, routing.
• Experience with modern cloud networking in AWS, VPC topology, Transit Gateway/PrivateLink/NAT.

Responsibilities

• Own the path between customers and code across edge, DNS, private connectivity, service mesh, TLS, and internal access.
• Instrument and land signals for observability across the request path, enabling rapid network issues diagnosis.
• Collaborate with Reliability, Platform Engineering, and Security to ensure fast, reliable, and secure traffic handling.
• Develop controllers, extensions, and automation to reduce the need for manual network troubleshooting.
• Scale and secure private connectivity between services, accounts, and clusters.
