Job summary

Jobtailor is seeking a senior backend engineer to lead the architecture and delivery of highly available distributed systems, including a cross-platform client and edge services. You will own design, coding, testing, and production monitoring across the stack in a collaborative, security-focused environment.

You will collaborate with security, network, SRE, and product teams, mentor teammates, and help set engineering standards while advancing the technical roadmap.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of backend software development experience building secure, distributed systems.
• Strong programming skills in Go, Rust, C++, or similar systems language.
• Knowledge of Unix/Linux development and runtimes.
• Understanding of OSI layers 3-7 networking and network programming.
• Experience with microservices and RESTful APIs.
• Basic understanding of software security and encryption principles.
• Ability to debug and troubleshoot complex distributed systems.
• Experience with monitoring/logging tools like Prometheus and Grafana.
• Experience with containerization/orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, ownership and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Lead the architecture and implementation of complex software systems including Cloudflare Tunnel.
• Design and document systems, write code, tests, and monitor deployments.
• Collaborate with security, network engineering, SRE, and product teams to scale solutions.
• Review peers' work to ensure high-quality, maintainable code.
• Foster engineering excellence through mentoring and coding standards.
• Debug and improve operational health of distributed systems.
• Shape the long-term technical roadmap and drive system-wide improvements.
• Work with Go, Rust, TypeScript, SQL/NoSQL, Docker, and Kubernetes.
