Job summary

Whatnot is hiring an Infrastructure Engineer to own the network path from edge to code across the Traffic team. You will instrument and observe every layer, partner with Reliability and Platform Engineering, and push the service proxy and mesh forward while ensuring security and performance.

You will design for failure, automate boring network tasks, and collaborate with Security on ingress/egress. A hands-on, software-first role, with remote flexibility and global hub coordination.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Deep on Istio/Envoy, with tuned configurations.
• Experience writing Envoy extensions when needed.
• Strong Kubernetes networking knowledge across L3/L4 and service mesh.

Responsibilities

• Own the path between Whatnot's customers and code across edge, DNS, and service mesh.
• Instrument every layer of a request and collect signals for observability.
• Develop controllers, extensions, and automation to minimize edge concerns for engineers.
• Shape traffic at the edge, build private connectivity between services, and scale mesh layers.
• Design for failure, rehearse failover, and keep security posture strong across network layers.
