Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking an experienced HVAC engineer in Illinois for a hybrid role (in-office 3 days/week). You will design HVAC systems for commercial, industrial, and laboratory facilities, develop detailed designs, and coordinate with clients and suppliers to ensure timely delivery.

Responsibilities include calculations, specifications, and supporting reviews with senior engineers, while leveraging ASHRAE standards and current codes to drive high-quality solutions.

Qualifications

• Essential skills include a BS in Mechanical Engineering (ABET-accredited) and 10+ years in HVAC system and chilled water design for commercial, labs, and industrial facilities.
• Proficiency in TRACE 700 or 3D+ and CAD tools (AutoCAD, MicroStation); ability to create flow diagrams and P&IDs.
• Knowledge of relevant HVAC and ventilation codes and standards; ability to prepare HVAC studies.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop HVAC systems for commercial, industrial, and laboratory facilities.
• Perform design calculations and prepare detailed system designs and specifications.
• Coordinate with project teams, clients, and suppliers to deliver timely designs.
• Assist senior engineers with facility reviews and propose upgrades or replacements.
• Familiarity with ASHRAE and current HVAC industry codes and standards.
