Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Mechanical HVAC Engineer to join our Nuclear Power Group in a hybrid role in Chicago, IL. You will design HVAC systems for laboratory and industrial facilities and collaborate across disciplines to deliver integrated solutions.

Responsibilities include design calculations, P&ID creation, equipment specs, and supporting senior engineers and clients. A BS in Mechanical Engineering (ABET) with 5+ years’ experience and knowledge of ASHRAE codes is required; PE is valued.

Qualifications

• BS in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program is required.
• 5+ years of relevant HVAC system, ventilation systems, heating systems, and chilled water system design experience for laboratory and/or industrial facilities.
• Proficiency in TRACE 700 or Carrier HAP.
• Ability to create design flow diagrams, and Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
• Prior knowledge of relevant codes and standards applicable to HVAC and ventilation system.

Responsibilities

• Design HVAC systems for laboratory and industrial facilities, including ventilation, chilled water, heating, and control room HVAC.
• Plan, schedule, and coordinate detailed design phases of facility engineering work.
• Perform design calculations and develop detailed system designs.
• Prepare technical specifications for HVAC equipment and engineering studies.
• Provide support to other engineers, project managers, client personnel, and suppliers to ensure timely design.
• Assist senior engineers with reviews of existing facilities to propose upgrades and present findings.
