Job summary

United Utility, headquartered in New Orleans, Louisiana, seeks a Senior Transmission Engineer to lead HV transmission design for utility, renewable, and grid modernization projects. You will guide technical work from planning through construction and mentor engineers across multidisciplinary teams.

Requirements include a BS in engineering, 10+ years in HV transmission, strong knowledge of NESC/NEC/IEEE/ANSI/NEMA, and proficiency with PLS-CADD, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering.
• 10+ years of experience in HV transmission line design.
• Knowledge of overhead transmission line design and utility standards.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary projects from planning to construction.
• Familiarity with NESC, NEC, IEEE, ANSI, and NEMA.
• Strong analytical and project management skills.
• Excellent communication with clients and teams.
• Experience reviewing calculations, drawings, specs and reports.
• Ability to mentor engineers and provide leadership.
• Proficiency with MS Office, PLS-CADD, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam.

Responsibilities

• Lead the engineering and design of high-voltage transmission projects through construction.
• Serve as technical lead, coordinating activities across teams.
• Develop and review transmission line designs, calculations, drawings, specs.
• Ensure designs meet client standards, safety codes, and regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate with Substation, P&C, Civil/Structural, and other stakeholders.
• Perform studies, feasibility analyses, constructability reviews, and value engineering.
• Support routing, structure spotting, conductor selection, and foundations.
• Review engineering packages for accuracy and completeness.
• Prepare scopes of work, estimates, proposals, and documentation.
• Respond to RFIs and client questions during project execution.
• Present to clients, provide updates, assess risks, and recommend engineering actions.
• Mentor engineers and staff; look for process improvements.
• Travel up to 20% within North America.
