Job summary

Dashiell Corporation seeks a Substation Engineer focused on high‑voltage substation design (34.5kV–500kV). Based in Portland, ME, you will lead design documents, schematics, and relay coordination while applying NEC, NESC, IEEE, and ANSI standards.

Successful candidates typically hold a BSEE and 3+ years of substation experience; licensed PE preferred or obtainable within a year. Occasional travel and collaboration with clients are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent from an accredited university.
• 3+ years of experience in substation engineering design; senior roles require 7+ years hands-on.
• Licensed professional engineer or ability to licensure within 1 year of hire.
• Familiarity with electrical relays used in the electric power utility industry.
• Experience with relays and metering at 138kV and above.
• Design of electrical schematics for relay applications and control systems.
• Knowledge of NEC, NESC, IEEE, and ANSI standards.
• Strong understanding of substation components and three-phase power systems.
• Ability to work in a team and communicate effectively.

Responsibilities

• Create design documents and drawings, wiring diagrams, BOMs, and as-built drawings with minimal supervision.
• Provide engineering support: relay burden, lighting, load flow, short circuit calculations.
• Apply software for ground grid design, relay coordination, transformer sizing, load flow studies.
• Review project schedules and help keep projects on track.
• Ensure compliance with NEC, NESC, IEEE, and ANSI standards.
• Supervise project activities and coordinate with stakeholders.
• Participate in site visits for hands-on training in substation design.
