Job summary

Dashiell is seeking a Substation Engineer for design and protection & control work in our Portland, ME office. You will handle design documents, wiring diagrams, and BOMs for 34.5kV–500kV substations, and apply NEC/NESC/IEEE/ANSI standards in a collaborative team setting.

Responsibilities include performing relay and load flow studies, supervising activities, and traveling to job sites as needed. Licensure eligibility within one year is expected for senior levels.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• 3+ years in substation design; senior roles require 7+ years.
• Licensed Professional Engineer or ability to licensure within 1 year.
• Familiar with relays used in power utilities.
• Experience with 138kV+ relay/metering design.
• Experience designing schematics for relays and control systems.
• Knowledge of NEC, NESC, IEEE, ANSI.

Responsibilities

• Create design documents and drawings; wire diagrams and BOMs.
• Perform relay burden, lighting, load flow, short-circuit calculations.
• Apply software for ground grids, relay coordination, transformer sizing.
• Review schedules with project engineer and stay on track.
• Use engineering standards; NEC, NESC, IEEE, ANSI.
• Travel to job sites as required; supervise project activities.
• Communicate with customers and team; ensure quality work.
