Job summary

Dashiell, an operating unit of Quanta Services, seeks a Substation Engineer to design substations from 34.5kV to 500kV at its Madison, WI office. The role requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and at least 3 years of substation design experience, with PE licensure possible within a year for senior levels.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent from an accredited university.
• 3+ years of hands-on substation engineering design; senior roles 7+ years.
• Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) or able to licensure in multiple states within 1 year of hire.
• Familiarity with electrical relays used in power utilities.
• Experience in relay coordination, schematics, and control system design.

Responsibilities

• Create design documents and drawings, wiring diagrams, BOMs, and as-built markups with minimal supervision.
• Perform relay burden, lighting, load flow, and short-circuit calculations.
• Use engineering software for ground grid design, relay coordination, transformer sizing, and studies.
• Review project schedules with a project engineer to keep projects on track.
• Apply NEC, NESC, IEEE, and ANSI standards in designs.
• Operate and manage documents using a document management system.
• Supervise project activities and coordinate with customers and team members.
• Travel to project sites for hands-on training and field work.
