Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Senior System Protection Engineer to lead protection philosophies, relay settings, and power system studies for transmission and substation projects. The role includes reviewing P&C design, coordinating with substation teams, and supporting field commissioning.

The ideal candidate brings 7+ years of system protection experience, proficiency with CAPE/ASPEN, and strong communication with utility clients, equipment manufacturers, and project teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from ABET‑accredited program or equivalent.
• 7+ years in system protection engineering for transmission/substation projects.
• Hands‑on relay settings and protection studies experience.
• Experience with CAPE/ASPEN or equivalent protection analysis tools.
• Familiarity with IEEE/ANSI/NERC/PRC standards for protection and control.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and application of protection philosophies and settings for transmission lines, transformers, buses, breakers, and capacitor/reactor banks.
• Perform short‑circuit analysis, relay coordination, and time‑current curve development.
• Configure, set, and troubleshoot microprocessor relays using vendor software.
• Manage relay records and protection data in Powerbase; align with client standards.
• Review P&C design documents and assist with field commissioning and startup.
