Job summary

Sargent & Lundy seeks a Senior System Protection Engineer to join our Grid Services team in a hybrid schedule based in Peachtree Corners, GA. You will lead protection philosophies, perform studies, and review P&C designs for high‑voltage projects, collaborating with substation teams and clients.

Ideal candidates bring 7+ years of protection experience, familiarity with CAPE/ASPEN tools, and strong communication skills to coordinate with utilities, manufacturers, and field teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program or equivalent.
• 7+ years of experience in system protection engineering for transmission/substation projects.
• Strong background in protection philosophies and relay logic (line, transformer, bus, capacitor/reactor).
• Experience with fault studies and relay coordination using CAPE/ASPEN or equivalent tools.
• Proficiency with protection configuration tools: SEL AcSELerator, EnerVista, and other OEM software.
• Experience with Powerbase or similar relay/asset databases and reading one-/three-line diagrams.
• Familiarity with IEEE/ANSI/NERC/PRC standards; strong written and verbal communication; project leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and application of protection philosophies and settings for transmission lines, transformers, buses, and capacitor/reactor banks.
• Perform system protection studies: short-circuit analysis, relay coordination, and time‑current curves.
• Configure and troubleshoot microprocessor-based relays using vendor software.
• Develop P&C design documents (one-lines, three-lines, schematics, wiring, logic diagrams, panel layouts).
• Support commissioning and field energization, including RFIs and field questions.
• Ensure protection schemes comply with client standards, NERC PRC, and industry best practices.
