Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Senior Field Mechanical Engineer - Assembly to own and solve the most complex assembly challenges on the SPARC tokamak. You will oversee the assembly sequence, guide technicians, and design tools and fixtures to keep the process moving in a high‑stakes, high‑precision environment at the Devens, MA facility.

This on‑site, third‑shift role requires 7+ years of mechanical engineering, CAD expertise, experience with large assemblies, welding and piping

Qualifications

• BS in Civil, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering.
• 7+ years of Mechanical Engineering experience.
• 4+ years overseeing construction, manufacturing, or assembly processes.
• 4+ years experience with CAD software.
• 3+ years experience with Siemens NX.
• Lifting and heavy equipment handling experience.

Responsibilities

• Owns and engineers oversight of SPARC assembly workstations from start to finish.
• Guides technicians and ensures tools and fixtures are available or rapidly built.
• Collaborates with Assembly Process and Metrology teams to implement process changes.
• Tests and handoffs processes for repeatable production use.
• Provides design feedback for SPARC sub-systems focusing on manufacturing and assembly.
• Resolves non-conformance issues and updates assembly sequences.
