Job summary

Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Lead Assembly Technician to supervise technician teams in assembling SPARC tokamak components, including coils, vacuum vessels, and instrumentation. You will organize daily work, ensure quality, and collaborate with engineers, metrology, and quality groups to resolve issues.

The role emphasizes hands-on assembly, process discipline, safety, and timely delivery of complex assemblies in a dynamic environment. Expect night shift Monday–Friday with a 10 p.m.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 7+ years in a highly technical assembly role in aerospace/semiconductor/oil & gas/power/wind racing or automotive.
• 2–3 years overseeing a team of five or more.
• Experience completing large scale projects end to end.
• Experience assisting lifting operations.
• Knowledge of joining and integration methods (bolted interfaces and flanges, welding, epoxies).
• Strong self-motivation, organization, and safety focus.
• Willingness to travel occasionally.

Responsibilities

• Day-to-day activity management and coordination of the technician teams to complete the assembly operations, per the overall schedule.
• Review of work orders including mechanical, welding, electrical, and lifting tasks.
• Participate in major on-site operations and component lifts.
• Inspection buy-off for tasks completed by technician teams.
• Daily updates to Assembly team on status of operations and completed work.
• Assign technicians or teams to operations per schedule priorities.
• Coordinate with out-of-house teams on specialized sections of SPARC assembly.
• Troubleshoot issues and develop workarounds or escalate as needed.
• Daily kick-off and shift-change meetings detailing work, safety hazards, and important events.
