Job summary

ITW is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer in the Richmond, VA area to design, develop, test, and support embedded software for both new and existing products. You will bring up new hardware, implement low-level drivers, and work closely with hardware teams to ensure robust, maintainable firmware.

The role requires hands-on engineering, strong problem solving, and the ability to operate across the full software lifecycle with occasional travel to support manufacturing and customers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Software, Electrical, Computer, or related).
• 4+ years embedded software development or related engineering experience.
• Proficiency in C/C++, Git, and real-time OS such as FreeRTOS or MQX.
• Strong hardware/software integration and system level design knowledge.
• Ability to work independently across design, coding, testing, and documentation phases.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Develop, code, test, and debug embedded software for customers and internal products.
• Design and modify moderately complex software applications based on specifications.
• Bring up embedded software on new hardware platforms and verify MCU/memory interfaces.
• Develop and debug low-level drivers for UART, SPI, I2C, USB, Ethernet, GPIO.
• Coordinate cross-functional activities and document designs and analyses.
• Create and execute test plans for hardware and firmware bring-up and regression.
