Job summary

ITW in Columbus is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to design, develop, test, and support embedded software for new and existing products. You will work closely with hardware teams on bring-up, low-level drivers, and MCU-based systems.

You will contribute to software architecture, perform reliability validation, and help resolve issues across firmware and hardware, while collaborating with manufacturing and field teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering required.
• Minimum of 4 years in embedded software development.
• Proficiency in C/C++, Git/Github, and RTOS (FreeRTOS, MQX).
• Strong hardware/software integration and system-level design.
• Ability to work independently across design, coding, testing, and documentation.
• Experience with board bring-up and debugging prototype hardware.
• Ability to read schematics, datasheets, and interface docs.
• Experience with JTAG, oscilloscopes, and protocol analyzers.

Responsibilities

• Develop, code, test, and debug new embedded software for customers and internal product lines.
• Design modifications to meet customer configurations with limited guidance.
• Bring up embedded software on new hardware platforms and verify MCU initialization.
• Develop and debug low-level drivers and BSPs for UART, SPI, I2C, USB, Ethernet, etc.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams and communicate software status and risks.
• Document designs, changes, and analyses thoroughly.
• Create test plans to validate reliability and performance, and participate in verification.
• Assist in manufacturing and field teams support.
