Job summary

Redwire Defense Tech is seeking a Senior Staff Embedded Software Engineer to design and develop firmware for UAV and power systems. You will lead end-to-end firmware lifecycle from requirements to testing, with emphasis on RTOS and safety-critical applications.

The role requires 10+ years in firmware, deep C/C++ expertise, and experience with device drivers and networking protocols. Remote work with East Coast preference, and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of 10 years of firmware engineering experience in complex systems (UAS/advanced electronics).
• Strong proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems; firmware from concept to production.
• Experience with RTOS and microcontroller programming.
• Proven experience in device driver development, protocol implementation, safety-critical embedded apps, board bring up.
• Knowledge of communication protocols and networking for embedded systems.
• Experience with robust testing and validation in embedded environments.
• Experience in safety-critical systems, preferably in aerospace/defense or regulated industries.
• Defense contracts experience preferred; cybersecurity in embedded systems advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Firmware design, development, and maintenance for complex UAV and power/communication systems.
• Develop test plans and validate firmware performance, safety, and compliance.
• Collaborate with multiple engineering disciplines for integrated system designs.
• Identify and implement innovative solutions to improve functionality, performance, and cybersecurity.
• Prepare and maintain detailed firmware design and test documentation.
