Job summary

ITW in Salt Lake City seeks an Embedded Software Engineer to design, develop, test, and support embedded software for microcontroller-based products. You will handle new hardware bring-up, low-level hardware/software integration, and driver development for interfaces such as UART, SPI, I2C, USB and Ethernet.

The role blends hands-on engineering with cross-functional collaboration, software architecture input, and reliability validation.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Software, Electrical, Computer Engineering, or related discipline)
Minimum of 4 years of embedded software development or related engineering experience
Proficiency in embedded programming languages (C/C++), version control (Git/Github) and real-time operating environments (FreeRTOS, MQX)
Strong understanding of hardware/software integration and system-level design
Ability to work independently across design, coding, testing, debugging, implementation, and documentation phases
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Experience supporting manufacturing, field teams, or customer applications is a plus
Demonstrated experience with new board bring-up and debugging prototype hardware
Ability to read schematics, datasheets, reference manuals and interface documentation
Experience with embedded debug tools (JTAG, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers) and with Bluetooth/BLE, UART, SPI, I2C, USB, Ethernet
Quarterly travel to Fairmont, MN facility could be required

Responsibilities

Design, develop, test, and support embedded software for products
Bring up embedded software on new hardware platforms and verify MCUs, memory, clocks, and interfaces
Develop, integrate and debug low-level drivers for UART, SPI, I2C, USB, Ethernet, GPIO
Coordinate with cross-functional teams and communicate software scope, status, risks, and issues
Document designs, changes, and engineering analyses thoroughly
Develop test plans and validation for product reliability and performance
Diagnose startup, timing, memory, and hardware/firmware interaction issues
Support manufacturing, field teams, or customer applications with software-related needs
Drive product development from concept through manufacturing release with engineering documentation
