Job summary

Blue Shield of California seeks a Sr. Director, Technology, Infrastructure & Stabilization to lead engineering delivery, platform operations, and technology services aligned to business objectives.

You will guide architecture, production stability, and cross‑functional execution with Product, Architecture, Security, and stakeholders. The role emphasizes modernization, reliability, and measurable outcomes, with a hybrid in-office model in our Virginia Beach footprint.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher, or High School Diploma/GED with 4 years of additional relevant experience.
• 12 years of prior relevant experience in software engineering, technology operations and management.
• 6 years of people management experience supervising engineering managers and senior technical leaders.
• Proven experience leading multiple engineering teams with delivery, people leadership, and operational outcomes.
• Proven track record owning production systems end-to-end and improving reliability.
• Experience stabilizing and modernizing legacy systems in production-critical environments.
• Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures, system design, CI/CD, observability, secure development, and reliability.
• Ability to lead cross-functional execution with Product, Architecture, Security, Platform, and business stakeholders.
• Master's degree in CS, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead engineering managers and technology leaders responsible for solution delivery, production operations, platform reliability, service performance, and continuous improvement.
• Guide architecture, delivery execution, production stability, and modernization efforts while driving operational maturity.
• Partner with Product, Architecture, Security, Infrastructure, and business leaders to improve execution, manage risk, and deliver measurable outcomes.
• Develop high-performing teams, foster continuous learning, and align leadership with business goals.
