Job summary

Blue Shield of California is seeking a Sr. Director, Technology, Infrastructure & Stabilization to lead engineering delivery, platform operations, and technology services.

You will guide cross‑functional teams, partner with Product, Architecture, Security, and business leaders, and drive modernization to improve reliability and operational excellence. The role emphasizes strategic leadership, scalable architecture, and risk management to deliver secure and high‑performing technology

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or Higher with 4 years of additional relevant experience.
• 12 years of prior relevant experience in software engineering, technology operations and management, or related technology roles.
• 6 years of prior people management experience supervising engineering managers and senior technical leaders.
• Experience leading multiple engineering teams, with accountability for delivery and operational outcomes.
• Own production systems end‑to‑end, resolving debt and improving reliability across large‑scale platforms.
• Stabilizing and modernizing legacy systems in production‑critical environments.
• Strong understanding of cloud‑native architectures, CI/CD, observability, secure development, and reliability.
• Lead cross‑functional execution with Product, Architecture, Security, Platform, and business stakeholders.
• Balance strategic leadership with execution focus, including delivery, team development, engineering quality, scalability, and risk management.
• Strong communication skills for senior and cross‑functional audiences.
• Experience leading in cloud-native/platform environments at scale; adoption of CI/CD and observability practices.
• Engineering standards and consistency improvements across teams; work in regulated environments is a plus.
• Experience guiding organizational change, growth, or transformation within engineering.

Responsibilities

• Provide senior leadership across engineering delivery, platform operations, and technology services.
• Lead engineering managers and technology leaders responsible for solution delivery and production operations.
• Guide architecture, delivery, production stability, and complex issue resolution while driving modernization.
• Partner with Product, Architecture, Security, Infrastructure, and business leaders to improve execution and reliability.
• Drive measurable business outcomes through technology and strategic leadership.
