Job summary

Blue Shield of California is seeking a Sr. Director, Technology, Infrastructure & Stabilization to guide engineering delivery and platform operations in a hybrid, in-office model.

You'll partner with Product, Architecture, Security and business leaders to improve reliability, manage risk, and deliver high‑performing technology services. The role requires strong leadership, cloud-native expertise, and a track record of modernizing legacy systems while driving operational excellence and measurable

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or GED with 4 years of additional relevant experience
• 12 years in software engineering, technology operations or related roles
• 6 years of people management with direct reports
• Experience leading multiple engineering teams and portfolios
• Owns production systems end-to-end and improves reliability
• Stabilizes and modernizes legacy systems under pressure
• Strong knowledge of cloud-native practices, CI/CD, observability, security
• Proven cross-functional leadership with Product, Architecture, Security
• Ability to balance strategic leadership with execution focus
• Excellent communication for senior and cross-functional audiences
• Experience in cloud-native platforms at scale preferred
• Experience driving CI/CD, observability and reliability practices preferred
• Experience establishing engineering standards across teams preferred
• Experience in regulated/complex technology delivery preferred
• Experience leading through organizational change preferred
• Portfolio planning and resource tradeoffs experience preferred
• Master's in CS/Engineering/Info Systems preferred
