Job summary

Slate is hiring a Senior DevOps Engineer to build and operate the infrastructure powering our digital, data, manufacturing and enterprise teams. You will manage a hybrid Kubernetes platform across EKS and self‑managed clusters, deliver AWS environments with CDK, and partner with cross‑functional teams to ship reliable software.

Qualifications

• 6+ years in DevOps, site reliability, platform or infrastructure engineering, with hands‑on responsibility for production systems.
• Strong AWS experience with IAM, VPC, EC2, EKS/ECS, Lambda, RDS, S3, Route 53 and CloudWatch; multi‑account experience a plus; AWS certs valued.
• Kubernetes operations experience with EKS and self‑managed clusters; familiarity with debugging workloads, networking and storage; cluster upgrades experience preferred.
• Python proficiency and infrastructure as code experience; AWS CDK preferred; ability to read and modify TypeScript used by some teams.
• CI/CD pipelines experience with GitHub Actions or similar; container image build and deployment skills; GitOps tooling such as Argo CD or Flux.
• Observability and on‑call experience with monitoring/logging tools (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, CloudWatch).
• Strong Linux administration and networking fundamentals (DNS, TLS, VPN, load balancing).
• Clear communication of trade-offs to engineers and non‑engineers; readiness to operate in a fast‑moving environment.

Responsibilities

• Build and Run the Hybrid Kubernetes Platform across AWS EKS and self‑managed clusters.
• Deliver and Extend the AWS environment using Python and AWS CDK across multi‑account setup.
• Partner with Digital, Data Eng and other Slate teams to provide environments, access and pipelines.
• Own pipelines and deployment patterns; maintain CI/CD workflows and GitOps deployments to Kubernetes.
• Keep systems running; participate in on‑call rotation, respond to incidents, and write postmortems.
• Automate repetitive work into self‑service tooling and reusable automation.
• Document runbooks, guides and design notes for teams to operate independently.
