Job summary

Slate is seeking a Staff DevOps Engineer to design and operate our hybrid Kubernetes platform across AWS and on‑prem clusters. You will own reference architecture for provisioning, observability, security and cost discipline, and lead on‑call practices.

This hands‑on role requires deep AWS, Kubernetes, Python and IaC experience, plus the ability to drive architecture across teams without formal authority; you will mentor others and write runbooks for smooth operations.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in DevOps, site reliability, platform or infrastructure engineering.
• Deep AWS expertise with multi-account governance and VPC networking.
• Kubernetes in production on EKS and self-managed clusters.
• Python and infrastructure as code; AWS CDK preferred.
• CI/CD and GitOps with GitHub Actions, Argo CD or Flux.
• Reliability engineering with SLOs and observability.
• Hybrid networking and policy/identity considerations.
• Technical leadership without direct authority.
• Startup‑style, fast‑moving environment.

Responsibilities

• Architect the Hybrid Kubernetes Platform across AWS and on‑prem clusters.
• Set direction for the AWS foundation and guardrails.
• Build the reliability practice with on‑call, SLOs and postmortems.
• Establish observability with metrics, logs, traces.
• Partner with Digital, Data, Manufacturing, and enterprise teams.
• Provide CI/CD templates, patterns and self‑service infra.
