Job summary

Slate is seeking a Staff DevOps Engineer to set the technical direction for building and operating a hybrid Kubernetes platform across Amazon EKS and self-managed clusters. This hands-on role requires designing, coding, and guiding platforms while sharing on-call duties with the team.

You will advance reliability through SLOs, observability, and incident response, collaborating with Digital, Data Eng, IT and Manufacturing Systems. Strong Python and IaC skills are essential.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in DevOps, SRE or infrastructure engineering with production platform direction.
• Deep AWS expertise across multi-account environments, IAM and VPC networking.
• Kubernetes in production on EKS and self-managed clusters; Rancher knowledge is a plus.
• Strong Python and Infrastructure as Code; AWS CDK preferred.
• CI/CD and GitOps with GitHub Actions, Argo CD or Flux.
• Reliability engineering with SLOs, observability and on-call practices.
• Hybrid networking across cloud and on-prem environments.
• Technical leadership without direct authority.
• Bachelors in CS/Engineering or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Architect the Hybrid Kubernetes Platform across EKS and self-managed clusters.
• Define AWS governance and multi-account guardrails, IAM and networking strategies.
• Establish on-call rotation, SLOs and incident response.
• Build observability with metrics, logs, traces and synthetic checks.
• Partner with Digital, Data Eng, Manufacturing Systems and enterprise teams.
• Provide CI/CD patterns and self-service infrastructure libraries.
• Shape platform for manufacturing workloads, data pipelines and AI workloads.
